Tomorrow is Friday (woot!) and not only is it the start to the weekend but it is also new release day for big movies! I go to the movies at least once a week because that’s just how awesome my life is (cough). Seriously though, I enjoy watching movies as I am sure most of you do too and I scour the web looking for new trailers for upcoming blockbuster hits and indie darlings.
Below are a just a few of the bigger releases happening for May 31st.
Post-apocalyptic movies are more popular now than ever and with the not-so-great success of Tom Cruise’s post-apocalyptic effort Oblivion, let’s see if this latest effort lead by Will Smith and his son Jayden Smith, will top the box-office its opening weekend.
The History of Future Folk
After a huge success at the Fantastic Film Festival, The History of Future Folk will be released to the general audience. The movie tells a story about a pair of aliens from the planet Hondo who invaded Earth to destroy it. However, after hearing our music they decided to become a blue-grass folk band and rock the world. A quirky sci-fi action comedy type movie that I’m the general audience may not appreciate, but I will most definitely check it out. As should you. Let’s see if this film will be as well received as it was at festivals.
Now You See me
When I heard the premise of the film – a group of illusionists robbing banks during their stage performances and rewarding audiences with the cash, never keeping any for themselves – I chuckled a little. While I can appreciate the original effort in a time where sequels, prequels and remakes is what is ruling the box office, I can’t deny that my first thoughts were that maybe this film might flop. However, this movie can take me by surprise and actually be a fun watch. Featuring some big names like Morgan Freeman and Mark Ruffalo, this movie may just be able to become a summer blockbuster hit. With a score by British electronic duo The Chemical Brothers, it might not be that bad.
